Pediatric infectious diseases is the specialty that diagnoses and manages infections in babies, children and adolescents. Specialists complete six years of medical school, four years of pediatrics and three further years of subspecialty training, which prepares them for complex, recurring or unusual infections. They also advise other departments when children in hospital develop infections that are difficult to treat.
